About Us

The Population scientists’ Association (PSA) was established in 2023

A scientific national body which brings together population scientists, demographers, development practitioners, policymakers and development partners in Uganda’s Population agenda/issues.
This is a group of professionals in demography and population who have come together to provide a national platform for intellectual exchange and policy-relevant scientific research on the population. It comprises of persons with professional interests in demography and population studies.
The Population scientists’ Association membership includes, but is not limited to, demographers with professional or personal ties to addressing population issues in Uganda. The PSA welcomes and encourages the participation and engagement of individuals, and the study of demographic topics, from Uganda and regional and global levels. The PSA will converge regularly to foster interest in, and the interchange of ideas on population, among professional and other interested persons working in the field of demography and population studies.

What PSA is

The Population scientists’ Association is a non-profit, scientific, professional organization established to provide a national platform for promoting policy-relevant research on the population in Uganda.

Aim of PSA

Established to provide demographic evidence that bridges the gap between research, Policy and practice in Uganda through research, capacity strengthening, and policy dialogue in population and development in Uganda.

The Population scientists’ Association is supported through

Contributions of formally registered members’ annual fees.
Subscription fees for formally registered members.
Institutional subscriptions.
Resource mobilisation drives and reaching out to development partners and the private sector.
Grant writing.
Donation and gifts.
Government contributions.
Provision of technical assistance to state and non-state actors.

Population scientists’ Association Activities include

The Population Scientists’ Association (PSA) advances its mission by serving as a nationally and regional demographic thought leader and provides population expertise to shape dialogues and population and development policy. PSA achieves this through the following core activities:
Strengthening demand for population research and evidence by increasing requests for technical and research support from stakeholders
Facilitating knowledge exchange through the preparation, publication, and dissemination of high-quality demographic and population knowledge products
Conducting demographic and social research and producing peer-reviewed and policy-relevant publications
Organizing and participating in conferences, forums, seminars, public lectures, and other professional events to advance population research and promote public education on population issues
Convening regular meetings and scientific gatherings to foster professional collaboration, stimulate interest in population studies, and promote the exchange of ideas among researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and other stakeholders in the population field
